General Introduction:
The stretch (pallet) wrapper is a machine designed for the automatic (manual) packing of palletized loads. The purpose of these machines is to protect and stabilize the goods on the pallets that will be shipped or stored. The protection and the stabilization of the palletized loads is provided by the stretch film, which secures the goods on the pallets.
Working Process:
There are various types of pallet wrapping machines available in the market, but the basic principle of operation is the same. The machine works by dispensing a roll of stretch film, wrapping it around the pallet, and cutting the film when the wrapping is complete. The following is a step-by-step explanation of how a pallet wrapping machine works:
  1. Loading the Pallet: The first step is to load the pallet onto the machine. This is usually done manually if semi-auto wrapper or by the loading conveyor automatically if it is in packing line.
  2. Setting the Wrapping Parameters: Before wrapping, the operator must set the wrapping parameters on the machine. These parameters include the number of revolutions of the turntable, the tension of the film, and the overlap of the film.
  3. Dispensing the Film: Once the wrapping parameters are set, the machine will begin to dispense the film.
  4. Wrapping the Pallet: As the film is being dispensed, the turntable begins to rotate. The rotation of the turntable causes the film to be wrapped around the pallet.
  5. Cutting the Film: Once the wrapping is complete, the machine will cut the film automatically. The cutting mechanism is usually located near the film carriage. The machine will cut the film using a hot wire or a knife.
  6. Unloading the Pallet: Once the film is cut, the machine will stop rotating. The pallet is now wrapped in stretch film and is ready to be unloaded. The wrapped pallet can be removed by operator manually or by conveyor if it is in a packing line.

1. The differences of a semi-automatic wrapper and full automatic wrapper are ?
The main difference is the automation degree. While a semi-automatic (manually) pallet wrapper needs human intervention to start the cycle, the automatic pallet stretch wrapper is part of a fully automatic packing line. Meanwhile the semi-automatic platform stretch wrapper can be installed anywhere in the factory, its automatic variant needs a conveyor line that allows pallets to flow in and out..
2.How to choose a suitable pallet wrapper?
Usually, for low production (less than 20 pallets/hour), we recommend semi-automatic pallet wrappers, as they offer versatility yet higher wrapping quality than a robot wrapper. For a range of 30 - 40 pallets/hour, we recommend an automatic wrapper which can be either a rotary arm or a low-production ring wrapper. For higher outputs of 40 pallets/hour or specific wrapping requirements, the reliable choice will be a high-performance ring wrapper.
3. What kind of film and consumables does a pallet wrapper use?
Usually, the pallet wrapper uses stretch film, but they can also employ pre-stretched film or other new consumables on the market, such as kraft paper with stretching capabilities.
  1. The standard stretch film is composed of low-density line polyethylene (LLDPE) which is what gives it its high stretch capacity. Depending on the characteristics of the plastic and the stretch wrapper (and its pre-stretching system) this type of film can stretch between 25 and 300%. If both the film and the stretch wrapper allow a higher stretching (more than 150%), allowing also a higher saving.
  2. The pre-stretched film is a film that has already been stretched to its shrinkage limit (which is usually 100%) and is normally used in manual or semi-automatic applications without pre-stretching and low tension. It is a non-stretch film recommended for loads that need slight protection or restraint.
  3. Lastly, stretch kraft paper fulfills a similar function to pre-stretched film, with the great difference that it has a lower stretching capacity and does not allow the application of a rope system. Even so, it has recently appeared on the market as a more sustainable alternative to film, since it is 100% recyclable.
